A lot of people, like me, just think that Apple should support their devices about a year after they have last been sold. The iPhone 3G was sold in a lot of countries until August it received its last update in November merely three months after it was discontinued. Hey, the standard warranty everywhere is one year.
They had done so with the original iPhone (though one could argue that the large gap between the 2.2.1 release in January 2009 and the 3.0 release in June already meant that support ended in effect in January, and that no security fixes were offered for a six month period neither for the original iPhone or the iPhone 3G that was the flagship during these six months).

I had trouble with closing the lid under Windows XP for standby, hope this does something :)

My sister switched to Mac. She bought herself a MacBook. :) In our household, this would be Page 1 News. Unfortunately, she's running Parallels so it's my job to slowly wean her off Windows.

On your second monitor. Is that program on the right from iStats? If so how do you get that there because I have iStats and I can not figure it out. If its not iStats, what is it?

Wow, I've never heard of this issue - and I haven't noticed it on my setup.

I have a NAS that, upon booting my iMac, gives me a "can't connect" error, because it's trying to mount that volume before network connectivity is established. I have to click the share's icon to get it to mount - but then it stays mounted. *shrug*

It mostly only effects larger networks moving big files on a mish mash of hubs or routers with recycled lengths of blue cable in a building with not very clean power.

So in other words your average office full of graphic and other design professionals. Or Apples strong hold business market.

So, the apple support page with the update link says:

I sometimes walk out in the snow without a jacket or a sweater, just a T-shirt. I would feel the cold pressing against my skin, not as cold, but as an unusual sensation. It's funny. When I changed my pain threshold in my mind, I was able to cope with the cold weather pretty easily.

Thats what I used to do to build my cold threshold, when I lived in Chicago.

People who agree to work with biographers do so because they want to have control or a strong degree of input of an authoritative biography. They want to make sure their motives and their side of the story (or revisionistic history to cover up mistakes and misdeeds) are read to the public.

Certainly, that would be an attractive idea to an important person who is seriously ill. Though nothing is of use to use when we're dead, the thought of a well-regarded legacy does provide comfort and purpose to those who are given advance warning of their death.

I'm not saying that's the case here with Jobs. But if it were, I wouldn't be surprised.

Bernie Ecclestone has just bought out an authorised biography that he fully cooperated on and he is in the best of health, works full time and travels to every F1 race so I would not write off Jobs on the basis of a book

man you could be getting a lot more PPD if you overclocked the 2 home built i7 machines. of course windows is where the bigadv units are right now, so that's where the points are.

i am curious, what do you do when you get a new video card or processor, with the old one? in other words, do you use the old stuff, or just take it out and let it sit around?

that's the hardest issue i have with upgrading. i'd love to upgrade my system to a 6-core, but then i'd have my 4-core just sitting there

Correct. Apple is switching MobileMe to CalDav I believe, so all your Apple devices should still sync. Outlook doesn't support CalDav so once the switch happens you won't be able to sync Outlook with MobileMe.

Interesting I have been experiencing a startup bug on my 20" Core 2 iMac, basically on cold boots I get the startup manager (as if option pressed) on virtually every boot. Shame Apple is not more specific about the startup issues that have been fixed.

Currently my machine is at an Apple authorized service center to try and sort out my startup problem, so far they cannot reproduce.... So this puts it down to maybe a USB device causing it to think option has been pressed, very odd and might land me with a repair bill if they cannot reproduce.

I think people will pay for 'news' when they realize that they're actually paying for reporting. What passes for 'news' for free online is often just crap.

I think these shots are real... No reason to doubt, I guess.

As for the Icon preview, I could swear that this feature has been mentioned in Apples Leopard feature previews/notes. Either way, it better have all that. Vista has "Live Icons", which show an icon-sized version of the application, even if it's video, OpenGL, web page or whatever when the app is opened and minimized. And for documents/images/videos it shows their actual content as an icon. IIRC, unopened video clips can loop a small segment of the clip as the icon.

I continue to be amazed by the number of students at my community college that have iPhones. These are students who for the most part are struggling to make ends meet, yet were willing to spend their limited cash that way. There are at least two or three students with iPhones in each of my classes; two years ago, I didn't see any -- and mine was a curiosity to them.

This is why people are in such big trouble. Buying shiny show-off toys that they can't afford. Especially community college students. :confused:

I want it in late June, early July at the most. This Autumn rumor is really peeing me off. Think I may even queue up for this one. Actually I won't. why does it make you a douche to wait in line for one of the most coveted devices in the world so you dont have to wait weeks to get it??? I for one wont do it, but i dont blame those who do...im just going to order ASAP so i dont have to wait weeks to get it

if it is true, please make it multi network compatible. I am sick of the bait and switch crap to get phone users to switch network providers, just to have an other provider come out with an other hot feature (or phone), that is exclusive to them too.
