I went through 8 - eight - treo 650, because the hardware quality was so poor, not to mention the constant resets.
now, imagine, i have a phone without a reset button. no, its not a palm device.
and i bet the iphone wont have a reset button.
your phones were decent - compared to the competition - three years ago with the announcement of the 650.
others have long overtaken you. and you have no answer.
I bet you cant wait to see that iphone and realize what you've all missed.
Retro Background VectorThis was inevitable given the number of phone models each OS is on. It was clear to see from way off. However if Apple are making more money than Google from these units it won't be anything for them to worry about.
It's much like Windows and OS X, there's the volume model (Windows) and the Apple model. I'm happy with my iPhone and I haven't met anyone who's been unhappy with theirs either, that said, I've also not spoken to any friends who are unhappy with Android.
Competition is good and while ever there is the competition then innovation will be driven more than if there was a monopoly, so this can't really be seen as a bad thing.

What crack-addled mind seriously thinks it'd be sensible or probable that Apple would come out with a new iPad 5 months after... coming out with a new iPad?
I mean, I suppose, if they just wanted to take the biggest splashiest attention grabber product they have and not bother capitalizing on all the time & money they spent on iPad2, and just completely hamfist the frickin thing up it's own arse for the sheer bloody hell of it, then yea, sure it makes total sense.
Or you could look at it this way, considering that the new ipad 2 is a capable graphic gpu its possible that the big difference to the ipad will be some retina like upgrade only. :)
I was feeling( I know :p ) the ipad 2 and its so thin that it actually felt nice in my hand :) more so than the ipad 1 :o so making the ipad 3 even more thinner to me would not really be a sell considering how thing it is now and rather see an upgrade in resolution with maybe more memory. I can see apple making the ipad 3 more of a finishing touch to the ipad 2 than a whole new revamp. :D

Just an observation. But, wouldnt it be quicker to just go to an apple store and purchase one rather than wait weeks to get one thru the mail. I know when MBP go to merom, i will be one of the first ones in the store. Maybe im wrong.
That's what I plan on doing. There are 5 Apple stores I can think of I can drive to easily, the closest being 2 miles away. I'll be there day one (if they actually update the MBP's.)
Of course, not everyone lives in close proximity to an Apple Store.
Fifties Wallpaper PatternBoring. I see a lot of people jump ship. :D me to wp7
sick of those notifications, boring same ol design etc.
UNM Desktop Wallpapers: RetroThis is good news for me. I'm an advanced/expert user of winblows, and I've reinstalled XP for the last time! Too many things don't go as it should, and I shouldn't even have to reinstall the operating system every 6 blasted months! I'm planning on getting the high end mac laptop in about a year, but its good to know that progress is being made!
Wallpaper Retro ~ chocolateJust a side note to all the discussion in this thread. I just searched the Navigon site for the European Version of the iPhone mount and the price to buy it is 39.95 Euros + VAT charges = 44.90 Euros (or $67.48), and does not count the shipping charges. At $67, it makes the purchase of the TomTom Car Kit at $87 an amazing deal. The Navigon kit is only the windshield mount and a charging cable.
Here's the link if you want to look for yourself:

Huh? If they aren't making any money for it now (with relatively few people paying for the service) how would it make sense to give it away for free (with many many more people not paying for it?)
I for one use it ALL the time. When you have more than one device (multiple macs, iphone), it's SO nice to have them sync wirelessly, immediately, and without having to login every time, on the native apps. iCal, Contacts, Safari links: I am a very frequent user of the mobileme syncing on all of these.
Maybe as marketing? Like you said, it works well and seamlessly if you have several Apple devices. People might be thinking of buying more than one Apple product, but wondering how they can keep everything synced.
Apple could promote Mobile Me as a "value add" and perhaps get more buyers of other devices that way?

I've had mobile me for a good while and like it. I use it to sync omnifocus, etc... iDisk is nice, but I still use dropbox. I have used it to find my iphone more than once and it's OK but not great, unless it can tell me exactly where my phone is it's still aggravating to know it's in my house, but where? I guess I'm being too picky though. Oh, syncing my MBP to my iMac is definitely a huge timesaver. I would think most people can do with free services, however, for Me it's a awesome. I didn't pay full price for my family plan, so that was nice too, usually if your buying a new laptop or desktop at the Apple Store you can get them to throw in MobileMe and AppleCare for almost nothing.

Maybe the key would be to offer the IPhone for all providers, make it run
a mobile version of OS X with IChat video. I have Sprint and their music store downloads in AAC format. I have wondered if their music store is actually ITunes and they resell it as their own. Does any other carriers download in AAC?
i second this, i would only buy this is i could use it with my Verizon account.

retro style pink green pictureHave you looked at the TouchWiz UI? It's almost identical to iOS - dock at the bottom, pages of icons in a grid and you even remove applications in the same way as you do on the iPhone. I've nothing at all against competition for iOS, but they shouldn't just rip the design off

Have you seen Windows GUI? It's also almost identical - rows of icons and task bar at the bottom. Did Microsoft sue Apple? No.
desktop wallpaper retro. Why is everyone getting so bent out of shape so early? First off, this is hear say and not officially stated by Apple yet. If that time comes, I'm sure there will be the option of a physical disk, or some way to make a bootable install disk using disk utility. I mean this thing is already 9 pages long of people flipping out that OMG!!! ITS A DOWNLOAD!!! Guess what? Microsoft offers windows as a download, and guess what? You can burn it to a physical disk.. I can't believe so many people are already jumping the gun on a RUMOR. It's a RUMOR until Apple officially announces it...
Perhaps its people realizing that the marriage of iOS & OS X signals a degree of uncertainty, mistrust, or just plain doubt based on an unpredictable Apple. Or not.
Maybe its those in the crowd who have the technical comprehension, to cause them to question Apple's true intentions.
Then again it could be that many are sensing a new less interesting era of appliance like simplicity.
"Look ma, even grandma Evelyn can use this".
Its Retro Again: 30+ FreeIrrelevant. Just because I stick a Ford logo on the hood doesn't mean I can make my new Mustang look like a Porsche Carrera clone.
Industrial design is legally protected work. And should be. It doesn't matter how you price your competing product.
How many other ways are there to design a simple tablet/touch screen phone before they start looking the same?
A car has many design elements that these slate type devices don't have the luxury of.

Unless ARM has something major in the works (low power, huge speed increase, flux capacitor etc) I don't understand the need to move away from Intel.
I will take this for what it's worth, a total shot in the dark from two years away. Also as long as there isn't a major issue switching architecture (PPC - Intel + Rosetta bleh) I could care less as long as Adobe can keep up. (haha, I know I know)
RETRO WALLPAPER FROM 70#39;SWow, this has to be bs. I cannot believe Apple won't introduce any hardware in WWDC '11.
They're planning on stretching the iPhone 4? Good job Apple, don't complain about losing customers now. If Apple releases the next iPhone after 2 years, then they are officially going to lose whatever market share they had.
I'm still going to wait for another announcement because every report said that there would be an iPhone 5 this summer, it makes no sense.
The iPhone 4 was a real refresh considering it was the first redesign in 2 years. The 3Gs was a smaller refresh than the iPhone 4 yet you still own one.
So in your world a 'real refresh' is when the externals change? Don't judge a book by it's cover, the 3GS was a massive upgrade.

With that said, it is absolutely idiotic to want no competition for Apple in any product

Hilarious that the email sender said a DROID won't track him...hahahah so funny... as if a "GOOGLE" phone doesn't track their Android user's every move... This isn't really a iPhone matter, its a matter of all smartphones, with maybe a little exception for blackberry's. It's really nothing new... Google even has a stored database for random screen-caps it takes on all its Android users at any time.
Android, WinMo, Symbian, WebOS, etc. openness makes them the most vulnerable, easiest targets of all.
The iPhone is more secure in this sense, as it's locked. Not impossible to break, but at least difficult.
We would need to go back to the days of the old flip-phone with no application capabilities: no symbian, no java, nothing!

Silly people. No one OWNS an iPhone. They own the right to use the iPhone. Welcome to the new world where buying a product does not mean that you can do what you want with it. You can only do what the manufacturers say you can do with it.
It seems to me that the media and those sending steve email don't understand what it means when they say "Apple is tracking me".
One question it raises: How will Apple handle paying customers' subscriptions that expire after the point this takes effect?
If this happens I'll bet only very limited number of features will be free. MobileMe subscribers will be getting another upgrade on iDisk space etc. I'll bet when iWork on-line document share is finally released you have to be paid MobileMe subscriber to use it.
Anyway, regarding the current price I think its too high when you look at the feature set. Then again I've been using it for over five years and never paid the full price...
