The massive earthquake followed by the even more devastating tsunami that struck the north-east coasts of Japan last week has brought together the country’s biggest automakers including Honda, Nissan and Toyota, which announced today that they will donate $3.75 million each for relief and recovery efforts in communities affected by the disaster.
In addition to the contribution in money, Nissan said it is also studying further relief efforts including complimentary provision of vehicles, such as trucks and forklifts, donation of medical supplies and daily commodities including blankets, antiseptics and masks, gift matching donation from Nissan employees, promotion, and support of blood donation activities.
Honda announced that it will donate a total of 1,000 power generators along with 5,000 gas canisters to the people left without electricity, while Toyota is considering the provision of goods and services as needed.
The three automakers have also announced the closure of some of their factories in Japan. From March 14 through March 20, Honda will suspend all production activities at its plants in Sayama, Saitama, Ogawa, Tochigi, Hamamatsu and Suzuka, plus all facilities in the Tochigi area, where damage was more serious. From March 15 through 20, Honda will also suspend production at the Kumamoto factory.
Nissan announced that operations at the Tochigi and Iwaki plants are suspended until March 18, while the Oppama, Kyushu, Shatai and Yokohama plants will be closed until March 16. As for Toyota, officials announced that the Hokkaido, Tohoku, Miyagi and Iwate plants are closed, with all employees having been evacuated to safe areas. The factories will remain closed at least until March 16.
Other automakers affected by the earthquake include Mazda, Mitsubishi, Subaru and Suzuki, which have either suspended or slowed down production because of supply shortages.

If we are looking for a sporty looking car but don't need an insane amount of speed or a super stiff car then the 2011 Mitsubishi Eclipse is a vehicle to explore. Even though it looks like a sports car, it was tuned to function as an everyday driver. Step inside the cabin and we'll find yourself in a well-appointed interior with sweet chrome accents for a modern look. The instruments are backlit by blue lighting and there is enough room to seat four individuals. Opt for the GT model and we get temperature adjustable seats, high intensity projector headlamps and 18" wheels. Cargo space for the coupe stands at 15.7 cubic feet while the Spyder offers 5.7 cubic feet.There is a four cylinder and a six cylinder engine available; a 2.4 Liter V4 with 162 HP and 162 lb feet of torque and a 3.8 Liter V6 with 265 hp at 262 lb feet of torque. Mileage stands at 20 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the freeway. This auto handles curves well and it stands out for its smooth drive.
Mitsubishi engineers have included a large number of safety precautions including seatbelts which tighten up during an accident and a comprehensive air bag system with side curtain bags. The chassis has been strengthened in critical areas and functions to absorb crash energy in case of an accident. The Latch system is also in place which makes it easier to attach child seats.The 2011 Eclipse would make a great vehicle for anyone who favors the look of a sharp athletic sports car but who doesn't need to win every street race. This auto is for the individual who prefers comfort over a sporty ride. The 2011 model is competitively priced to sell around $20k range.

I always like the design of the Mitsubishi compact pickup truck. Mitsubishi Triton actually originated in Malaysia as a Mitsubishi Storm. Triton has always had a strong and robust design that attracts many truck buyers. TMR Triton is a concept vehicle which closely represents the reality of production.

Mitsubishi GalEA was created by Gábor Farkas. The independent designer has now sent us yet another Mitsubishi study, this time for a replacement to the Galant sedan.The concept is named GalEA and is said to draw its inspiration from the previous, sharper-looking eighth generation Galant of the late 1990s, while sharing similar design cues with the smaller Concept CS.

The current generation Mitsubishi Grandis is a good representation of the Japanese automaker as a whole. Plastic-y interiors, underdone ride and handling and anodyne looks combine to make the Grandis a poor substitute for the vastly superior and better selling Toyota Tarago [Australia]. With its South Korean competition having long ago stepped up to the plate, it’s disappointing to see Mitsubishi lagging so far behind.

David Cardoso, the artist who in the past has brought us design studies such as Renault Twist MPV and Audi Hydron, has envisioned a possible successor to the Grandis in the form of the Flexis. Appearing to be smaller than the Grandis - with seating more likely for five instead of seven - the Flexis takes it’s styling cues from the Opel Meriva, Peugeot 3008 and 2012 Ford Focus. Overall it’s a good expansion on Mitsubishi’s current design language, and a far sight better than when Mitsubishi tried applying its new corporate face to the aging Colt. The Mitsubishi Lancer nobody really wants but almost everyone gets across the pond has become a bit more desirable in the UK with the launch of a new special edition, which as usual translates to additional equipment at a more competitive price. The new edition is called Juro and is based on the Lancer 1.5 GS2 hatchback, which is powered by a 1.5-liter petrol engine gasping out 107-horses and 143Nm or 105 lb-ft of peak torque.
The Lancer Juro comes equipped with black leather seats and an integrated Kenwood multimedia system that comprises Garmin Satellite Navigation, Parrott Bluetooth, iPod connection lead and reversing camera as standard.
Other standard features include 16-inch alloy wheels, climate control, alarm, leather steering wheel with audio controls, electric windows, mirrors and locks, and a color-keyed rear spoiler to keep all those ponies close to the ground.
In the UK, the Lancer 1.5 Juro hatch is priced at £14,749, which includes free metallic paint and VAT.

The Mitsubishi i-MiEV all-electric city will have its world premiere at the Los Angeles Auto Show, to be held from Wednesday, November 17 to Sunday November 28. Mitsubishi decided to “fatten-up” the North American version of the i-MiEV, and make it bigger than its Japanese- and European-spec counterparts.

The i-MiEV will be marketed in over 14 countries in Europe, including France, Britain, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden Switzerland also Germany, the price range of 33-35 thousand Euro.

The latest design in the i-MiEV to the European markets are currently on the front and rear bumpers, especially the addition of foglamp on both sides of the bumper.

While interior including cabin are made more comfortable, Mitsubishi is also making changes to the instrument panel center stack in the i-MiEV.

It is equipped security sector, strict European safety standards recognized by Mitsubihsi, therefore in addition to airbags, i-MiEV already embedded technology Active Stability Control (ASC).

Electric cars are worth about U.S. $ 50,000 in Japan takes about 7 hours each way along the 160 km. Can also be sped up to a maximum speed of 140 km / hour. If using a fast battery charging equipment, the battery can be charged 80 percent within 30 minutes.

Called the Mitsubishi CS, the Ford Fiesta-sized concept model blends select styling cues from the Japanese brand’s most recent models such as the Lancer’s so-called shark nose with an aggressive body shape boasting curvalicious details.

“I had some time to speculate and this is how I imagine a Colt successor that Mitsubishi fans could like. When designing the conceptCS, the main goal was to summon the spirit of its ancestors.” Gábor Farkas said.

Less concept approach is continued in the interior which is partially inspired by the Outlander Sport (called ASX in Europe and RVR in Japan).
